About the Department
The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 1983. The department offers 3 years full-time diploma course in Mechanical engineering with annual intake of 120. The students are split into two sections A and B each of 60 capacities. The department has dedicated and well experienced faculties and the students are given with excellent technical education with latest technology to cope up with the hi-tech in machine designs and modern manufacturing. Most of the students are getting job opportunities in the nearby industries and organizations in Tamilnadu State as well the other States.
Facilities
The department of Mechanical engineering has 9 laboratories
- 1. Machines of Material Lab
- 2. Fluid machines Lab
- 3. Workshop I (Foundry, Welding & Smithy)
- 4. Thermodynamics Lab
- 5. Workshop – II (Turning, Drilling & Shaping)
- 6. Metrology, Machine Tool Maintenance and Testing Lab
- 7. Workshop – III (Slotting, Planning, Milling, Grinding & CNC Machines)
- 8. CAD and CAM Lab
- 9. Automobile Technology Lab.
All these laboratories/ workshops are well equipped with modern machines / instruments and tools, including CNC lathe, CNC miller, Digital comparator, Pentium systems.
Activities
The department is effectively functioning well with the association activities through the ISTE and IE(I) students chapters, and continuing education cell of CIICP (Canada India Institution Co-operation Project).
The students chapter conduct various Seminars, Guest lectures, Quiz Programmes, Industrial visits, Technical symposia etc. in every semester.
The continuing Education Cell conducts short term courses like

- 4 Refrigeration Air Conditioning
- 5 Four – Wheeler servicing
The faculty is taking periodical training in the modernized machineries during their vacation period.
The department also conducts programmers under soft–skills like effective communication
